WSPA Spurs Analysis of State
SIP Analyses
Faced with a variety of diverse approaches by state
and local air quality regulators throughout California,
WSPA undertook an effort to review and analyze past
SIP activities. This work, to help understand why previous
SIPs have not achieved results that were anticipated,
will be conducted by the California Air Resources Board
as part of a SIP retrospective analysis under the Central
California Ozone/PM Air Quality Study.
Also in 1999, WSPA initiated a complementary study
to: 1) define the impact upon the petroleum industry
of AQMP and SIP regulatory proposals for 2000 and beyond,
and 2) to outline deliverables and timetables required
of local, state and regional agencies as they fulfill
their SIP commitments. The impact and potential costs
of SIP proposals will be identified for key regional
air districts to assist WSPA in developing an industry
strategy. This will result identifying and advocating
for technically feasible and cost-effective solutions
to improving air quality. Initial results are expected
first-quarter 2000.
