WSPA Issues Statement in Response to Energy Commission Recommendations Addressing California’s Oil and Gas Crisis

SACRAMENTO – Today, Catherine Reheis-Boyd, President and CEO of the Western States Petroleum Association, issued the following statement in response to the California Energy Commission’s recommendations to Governor Newsom to stabilize California’s transportation fuels market:

“We appreciate the leadership of CEC Commissioner Siva Gunda as he has collaborated with industry, stakeholders and other agencies to understand the complex fuels market in California. These are the right conversations to have.

“Over the past few days, WSPA members have taken time to thoroughly review Commissioner Gunda’s letter to Governor Newsom, which outlines a recommended course of action to address the oil and gas crisis in California, which also impacts Nevada and Arizona. We believe Commissioner Gunda’s recommendations are a strong step in the right direction for our industry, and also for consumers, local communities and workers as energy evolves going forward. We want to underscore the urgency that will be required to carry forward this agenda if there is any hope to restore investor confidence in California and ensure energy refiners and producers can continue to provide California drivers with a safe, affordable and reliable supply of fuel.

“The time for immediate action is now. If the administration can restore confidence for our industry in California, we believe it can be the start of an effective partnership that will bolster our economy, preserve jobs, address looming affordability issues and continue to protect the environment.”
