Jim Stanley joined the Western States Petroleum Association in April 2025 as Director of Media Relations. He leads WSPA’s media strategy and external communications across Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
Jim brings nearly 15 years of experience in political communications and public affairs. He previously served as Communications Director for the California State Assembly Republican Caucus, where he oversaw all external messaging and advised lawmakers on media strategy, rapid response and public policy communications. He also held senior roles at the National Republican Congressional Committee, helping manage national ad campaigns and guiding message development and research.
In 2024, Jim was recognized by Capitol Weekly as one of the “Capitol’s Best Press Reps” for his effectiveness in shaping public narratives on complex policy issues.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Vermont. Jim lives in Sacramento with his partner, Rebecca, and their two dogs, Muppet and Baxter. When he’s not in the office, he can be found skiing, hiking, camping and motorcycle riding.
