Julie Berge joined the WSPA team in March 2017 and currently serves as Director, Strategic Communications. With an emphasis on creating a better understanding and perception of the oil and natural gas industry among government leaders, the media and the general public, Julie is responsible for leading the strategic communication efforts for WSPA’s narrative and messaging, brand development, social media strategy and events. She plays a leadership role in managing the WSPA Associates advocacy program and Latino community outreach efforts.
Prior to joining WSPA, Julie held a series of senior communication positions at VSP Global and its family of companies, including vision insurance company, VSP Vision Care. Bringing an expertise in integrated consumer and corporate communications, Julie’s contributions spanned the areas of social media, e-commerce, public relations, corporate social responsibility and internal communications.
Prior to VSP, Julie was a managing supervisor for leading global communications firm FleishmanHillard, where she spent the bulk of her tenure in the agricultural and association space, connecting consumers with the farmers and ranchers who produce the abundance of agricultural products grown in California.
Julie earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational communications from California State University, Sacramento and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Chapman University, and in 2022 earned a certification in Change Management from Cornell University. When Julie is not working to protect and promote the oil and gas industry, she is spending time with her husband and three children enjoying the great outdoors. She also contributes much of her time to local youth programs as a Girl Scout troop leader and Board Member of her daughter’s softball league.
